From the Founder – Dale Simkiss
I founded Harbour because too many businesses get into trouble not through bad decisions — but through payroll and compliance that looks fine until it isn’t.
Payroll isn’t just admin. It creates real liabilities to HMRC and pension providers that directly affect cashflow, compliance and peace of mind. Most business owners only find that out when the accountant is reporting what’s already gone wrong.
My background combines military discipline with years of running and improving complex, contractor-heavy payroll operations at scale. That includes leading an operational and compliance transformation that supported a successful private-equity exit at Omnia in 2023 — an environment where accuracy, governance and financial control weren’t optional.
Today, Harbour applies that same rigour to SMEs. I work earlier in the process than most — helping owners prevent issues, clean up historic problems, and build robust foundations so there are no surprises later. Accountants are essential, but they tell you what happened. I help you make sure it doesn’t happen in the first place.
Alongside Harbour, I hold two Non-Executive Director roles and run Simkiss Consulting, supporting owners with governance, financial clarity and operational control.
